I began my career working as a pediatric nurse in the critical care unit. After working that unit for 3
years I transferred to the pediatric emergency room where I became a charge nurse working the night
shift. After working in that position for 2 years an assistant nurse manager position became available in
the emergency room and I went for it. After working as an ANM for 1 year I transferred to our sister
hospital working as an ANM there for 2 years prior to transferring back and accepting a position as the
emergency room nurse manager.
Why should we consider you for the role of nursing director?
I should be considered for the position because I possess more than 10 years of nursing experience, and
with my management experience I believe that I can make a difference in the workplace.
Describe an emergency in which you had to act quickly. Would you do anything differently if you
had to do it again?
A patient attacked and injured a nurse, and security was immediately called by me. Looking back,
, I should not have tried to talk to the patient and the nurse to find out what was wrong immediately
after it happened. I should have settled the patient and nurse prior to discussing the incident with
them.
What have you done in the past to calm an upset patient and their family? Would you do
anything different today?
