,Introduction and History
◼ IB is acute highly contagious viral disease of
chicken characterized by severe respiratory signs
(including gasping, sneezing, coughing and nasal
discharge)
◼ First reported in 1930 from North Dakota USA and
was confirmed as independent disease in 1936
◼ In 1960 it was diagnosed first time in Holland in the
Europe
◼ Vaccine became commercially available in 1950s
which is practiced worldwide
,Etiology
◼ IB is caused by Corona Virus belonging to
coronaviridae family
◼ It is a crown shape virus therefore it is called as
corona virus it is RNA virus
◼ Many serotypes are available like Arkansas,
Massachusetts, Connecticut, M41, H120 etc.
◼ Some strains have predilection to renal tissues
called as nephrotopic strains
◼ High mutation character is present in the IBV
, Etiology
Serotyping – based on Virus Neutralization tests
Genotyping – based on the S1 gene sequence
S1 subunit responsible for:
- Induce VN and HI antibodies.
- Determine genotype.
- Induce local protection
