CONCISE NOTES
Generate 6 test questions on topic industrial microbiology for academic level
bachelor degree based on the learning outcome and my notes.
Learning outcome:
Point out knowledge of the essential facts, concepts, principles, and theories relating
to the production processes in industrial biotechnology
My notes:
Bioethics
1. Ethics → identifies a code of values for our actions
2. Bioethics
area of ethics that deals with the implications of biological research and
biotechnological applications especially in medical fields
Area of concern especially regarding genetically modified crops
The plant → species integrity
possible effect of altered plants on the ecosystem and overall
biodiversity
How will the crops be used?
is it safe to feed to animal?
Is it safe for human?
Biosafety, Bioethics, Aquatic Biotech 1
, consideration of other genes/products present in the GM crops
Inquiries
Informed consent
patients have the right to be fully informed of the potential
effects of the experimental treatment both good and bad.
example: placebos and double-blind trials
Concerns
privacy of DNA information
possibility of genetic information being used negatively by
employers, insurance companies, and governmental
agencies/through perceptions of the general public
Biosafety
1. Legislations relevant to the biotechnology industry in Malaysia
a. Biosafety Act of Malaysia
aims:
to govern and regulate the release and import of LMOs and
products of such organisms in Malaysia
to ensure safety and prevent unforeseen consequences as a
result of the release or import of LMOs.
Example in Malaysia
Release of genetically modified mosquitoes (Aedes aegypti)
population for a mark-release-recapture field test in Bentong,
Pahang to controlled increased cases of dengue.
b. Malaysia’s National Policy on Biological Diversity
aims:
to conserve Malaysia’s biological diversity
to ensure that its components are utilized in a sustainable
manner for the continued progress and socio-economic
development of the nation
c. Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
