01. Since the eighties we have been witnessing the increasing presence of women in
in public sphere in the context of Bangladesh. Then how would you explain the
feminization of work with respect to the RMG industry in Bangladesh?
Bangladesh has a name for herself in the global garment markets, H&M, GAP, Austin Reed,
Tommy Hilfiger and many more, all these major fashion brands have products which are made in
Bangladesh. This huge source of foreign currency is only possible for the garments factories and
its workers. Since the eighties we have been witnessing the increasing presence of women in
public sphere in the context of Bangladesh.
The feminization of work place means the shift in gender roles or the incorporation of women
into a profession once dominated by men. After the dawn of RMG in Bangladesh this specific
industry has paved the path for women to work hand in hand for the development of that part of
society. While Bangladesh is developing more and more to provide women with education while
the RMG industry utilized this massive work force a country through production. It has enabled
women of our country to utilize their proficiency and aptitude toward the betterment of her
family, society and country.
The expansion of the RMG industry in Bangladesh began to disperse the issue of women
movement in the outer world. The cultural notion of women restricted in household has begun to
fade after the garments industry is providing opportunity to earn their living. As the garments
industry expands more work opportunity for women to earn their living increases.
