The connection between The Islamic revolution of Iran , 1979 and India
Iran is regarded as the cradle of ancient civilization and still it is continuous . It’s
ancient name was ‘’Persia’’ . Persia under the Sassanian dynasty (224-651) became Muslim
after its armies were defeated by the Arabs at the battle of Qadissiyya in AD 637 . Here we
have to note that Persian model of governance became the norm in the courts of the Abbasid
caliphs . Besides , Persian cultural achievements provided richness , grace and finesse to the
Arab Empire .
After Mongol era , Iran obtained it’s own dynasty and empire under the Safavids
(1501-1736) , founded by Shah Ismail . Then , Iran had seen Qajar dynasty (1785-1925) . In
February 1921 , Reza Khan , commander of the Persian Cossack Brigade staged a coup
d’état, and formally proclaimed himself Reza Shah Pahlavi in October 1925 , setting up the
new Pahlavi dynasty ( 1925 – 1979) . In August 1941 , Iran was occupied by British and
Russian forces in response to the Shah’s declaration of neutrality in the war , which would
have denied the Allies a transport corridor to Russia . He was forced to abdicate in favour of
his son , Mohammed Reza Shah Pahlavi , in September 1941 , and go into exile in South
Africa .
Now we should be acquaint about Ayatollah Khomeini who led Islamic revolution of
1979. From medieval time , we can see the influence of Shia clergy in the administration of
Iran . The clerical order , in Iran enjoyed wealth , social status and local authority. From the
late 19th century , as Qajar rule weakened in the face of Western economic and political
encroachment , the clerics became the principal source of dissent against western powers and
their representatives . In the course of time Iran have developed unique phenomena which is
called as ‘’Clerical Activism’’ in national politics. From 1965 , days in exile in Najaf (Iraq) ,
