, Fatal police shootings in 2021 set record since the post began tracking, despite public

The article speaks about the stagnation of the fatal police shootings statistics for the year
2021. This comes in the wake of mass policing overhauls that had been enacted since the murder
of George Floyd that sparked worldwide mass action. Since 2020 nearly 400 bills got introduced
in the stage governments to try and institute checks and balances of the police use of force on the
population. Never the less the article presents facts and figures showing that the numbers of
police fatal shootings have in fact gone slightly higher by 3% from 1021 in 2020 to 1055 in2021.
It proceeds to note however that there is no need for cause for alarm to the people because this
ought to have been expected given that change in policies tend to take a while before they come
to full throttle.
The article has employed the use of descriptive statistics to full effect in its presentation of
facts. To start with there is evidence of use of measures of frequency whereby the article
employs use of percentages, frequency and counting rules in the data presentation. The first
percentage denoted in the article is the 3% increase in the number of police fatal shootings from
the year 2020 to 2021. The article also notes that it was only 15% of the people who had been
shot killed by the police who had not been armed. The descriptive statistics describes that out of
all the shootings 94% of the killings were men and only 14% of these had a known mental
illness. The article also goes on to announce that out of all the killings 20% were captured on
body cameras this proving to be the highest percentage of footage captured on body cameras
since the initiative was inaugurated in 2015( Mishra, et al.,2019).
