Situation:
Full term Baby girl Akita-Byrd born this morning at 0505. Mother of baby was extremely tired
and asked the nurse to take the infant until the mother notifies the nursery that she is ready
for rooming-in. Infant was placed in the newborn nursery, where she is sleeping comfortably.
Vital signs are stable
Background
Mother of baby, (plan on naming infant Prairie Moon) experienced spontaneous rupture of
membranes 20 hours before birth. The mother tested positive for group B beta-hemolytic
streptococcus (GBS) and received her second dose of antibiotics as baby was descending birth
canal.
The newborn’s Apgar scores were 7 at 1 minute and 8 at 5 minutes. She was transferred to
newborn nursery an hour after delivery in stable condition.
