Dysmenorrhea (Painful cramping).
I. Non pharm interventions
heating pads, exercise, rest,
relaxation/breathing.
II. Pharm interventions
NSAIDS (aspirin, Motrin, etc.).
Increase Ca. Oral contraceptives can also help reduce pain, after several weeks of use.
Self-breast exams
Should be given monthly, 7-10 days after menstrual cycle.
Breast cancer risk factors
Alcohol, obesity, history smoking.
Menstrual Cycle. 4 Organs work together-
Hypothalamus, uterus, pituitary gland, and ovaries.
Can be interrupted by stress, hormonal imbalance,
etc.
However, the ovulation period is always followed by the bleeding period in 14 days.
Normal Menstrual Cycle
I. Menstrual Phase (Day 1-6):
Bleeding phase. Decreased estrogen and progesterone levels. Ovary is starting to prepare another
ovum/egg.
II. Proliferative Phase (Day 7-14):
Increase of uterine smooth muscle. Cervical mucous thickens.
III. Secretory Phase (Day 15-26):
Increased progesterone levels. Cell walls
“thicken”.
IV. Ischemic Phase (Day 27-28):
Start of menses, day 1 of next cycle immediately begins. “Tearing down the blood vessels”.
STI
Bacterial- Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Syphilis.

Can be passed from mom to baby, causes eye infections.
