The art of sport has been highly prevalent in our society from as early on as 2000BC
where the Chinese trained in gymnastics for leisure and also half way across the world in
Egypt where pharaohs were known to take part in swimming and fishing for competition
and amusement. The world has evolved and due to the increasing use of technology and
gadgets, many have lost touch with sports. Indonesia is one such example where sports is
enjoyed by millions but is not prioritised. Physical education has proven to bring out various
advantageous outcomes such as training our minds and bodies to become fit and healthy
not to mention an effective way to beat boredom. To add to the list, ample revenue can
emerge from sports but Indonesia has yet to pursue sports from this aspect.
The Health Ministry of Indonesia has stated that childhood obesity has increased by
8 percent since 1970. This can be conquered by introducing proper nutrition and fitness
from an early age. Illnesses such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease are becoming more
and more rampant among teenagers due to the increasing laziness that many suffer from.
Because of this, we as a populace have to open our eyes to a problem that could soon take
over our country by storm. Not only can fitness programs improve our physical health but
also our mental states as many turn to sports to vent out frustrations and stress. Countless
positive outcomes can develop from acknowledgement.
