P3 - Describe how the website of three organisations have been designed to appeal visually
to their use.
Introduction
In this report I am going to describe how the website of three organisations have
been designed to appeal visually to their use.
Amazon
Visual appeal: When entering the Amazon website the layout is flexible and adjusts
automatically, there is an explicit version of the site with a clean interface, less
clutter, and a clear hierarchy of the content. Commented [1]: http://homepages.herts.ac.uk/~iw09a
ab/IMSC/year_1/Luke_G/amazon_targetaudience.html
Accessibility:
Screen magnifier-Amazon has a screen magnifier on their website to allow their
customers who may have difficulty reading text e.g older people to use gestures to
magnify the screen.
Font Size-Amazon allows customers who have difficulty seeing text to increase the
the size of the text throughout their website.
Screen Reader-Amazon has a feature for customers who are visually impaired as it
describes what the person touches and interact with on the screen (for example, the
title of a book in the carousel).
Conflicts in usability:
Personalisation vs speed-
Amazon is capable of remembering user that had logged in, and that user’s
shopping habits are tracked and stored server-side.This is a good enhancement,
because it dynamically customizes the user’s experience based on prior searches.
The fault in this though can be that it may cause Amazon website to slow down from
the use of content overload with graphics that may cause irritation to the customers
especially tennagers.
Appealing to a target group:
The website is certainly aimed at a wide audience who are interested in internet
shopping. The range of items for sale that Amazon offers would suggest that they
wish to target customers of all ages from young to the old.
Use of multimedia:
● Advantages of multimedia:
For Amazon it makes it easier to draw in their target market customers, as by them
adding the most popular multimedia of audio e.g music playlist before buying a CD.
● Disadvantages of multimedia:
Loading times may become a disadvantage for amazon e.g teengaer cliciking a way
from Amazon on to their competitors website.
Use of white space:
Their homepage is filled with images and menu bars with little white space , it looks
clean and easy to navigate.
