P5:Draw up plans to assess the design of a website aimed at meeting a specified purpose.
Introduction
In this report I will draw up and list what the evaluation of design and ongoing launch
plans are for my website.
1. Completing all system testing and quality assurance-
For my website (Perfect Purse), it's imperative that the user be able to move through
multiple web pages as easily as possible. On my website there is a navigation section
that contains the most common actions e.g login links and the basket. For example
my website offers a shopping basket function allowing customers to select items and
place them in the basket. The site calculates the total value of the items in the basket
and gives an option of a checkout. At the end of the online shopping process,
customers are given payment options involving giving credit/ debit card details.
In order to ensure all links work on my website it will have to be kept up to date with
current information on products. This may mean that there need to be staff who are
able to monitor this and make adjustments when and if they are needed. Many
transactional websites depend on background databases to supply the information
that is essential to them. I may employ an integrated set of digital systems that
should be capable of avoiding data duplication.
I will then use an expert in the field to evaluate the usability of the website.
Automated expert tests are typically not as detailed as other types of usability tests,
but their advantage is that they can be completed quickly.
2.Ensure you use ordinary testers-
I will use hallway testing as testers, as using random people to test the website
rather than people who are trained and experienced in testing websites. This method
is particularly effective for testing a new website for the first time during
development.
Questionnaires and Interviews: Due to their one-on-one nature, interviews enable
the observer to ask direct questions to the users (apart from double checking what
they are really doing). Similarly, the observer can also ask questions by means of
questionnaires. The advantage of questionnaires is that they allow more structured
data collection. However, they are rigid in nature as opposed to interviews.
Do-it-Yourself Walkthrough: Just as the name implies, in this technique, the
observer sets up a usability test situation by creating realistic scenarios. He or she
then walks through the work themselves just like a user would. A variation of this
technique is the group walkthrough where the observer has multiple attendees
performing the walkthrough.
