Welcome to the Third Lesson in the Humanities Class Online!

In this lesson, we will be reviewing the next historical age along with the next text that we will be
reading. This time, the lesson is entitled "Revolution and Romanticism". Let's get started!

The Age of Revolution

The Age of Revolution started in the late 18th century and was marked by two major revolutions - the
American Revolution and the French Revolution. These revolutions were influenced by the
Enlightenment and the changes it brought to social and political ideals, as well as literary and
philosophical developments.

The American Revolution took place from approximately 1775 to 1783. It was primarily caused by
economic reasons, such as Great Britain's accumulation of war debts. The American colonies, which had
no representation in the British Parliament, rejected the increased taxes imposed by Great Britain. This
led to the famous phrase "no taxation without representation". The revolutionaries declared
government by consent of the governed and espoused values of life, liberty, and the pursuit of
happiness.

The French Revolution, which took place from approximately 1789 to 1799, was a more significant event
in this course. The French Revolution had a profound impact on European tradition and influenced many
of the texts we will be studying. It began with the convening of the Estates-General by Louis XVI to
address economic problems. The middle class formed a separate national constituent assembly, rejecting
the nobles and church leaders. The revolution went through several phases, including the introduction of
a representative democratic government, radical change, and the Reign of Terror. It also brought about
the granting of full rights to all males, including blacks and Jews, but excluded women.

Conclusion

Both the American Revolution and the French Revolution were fueled by Enlightenment ideas and
brought about significant changes in society and politics. The American Revolution resulted in the signing
of the Declaration of Independence and the establishment of a government with three branches. The
French Revolution, although marked by violence and radical change, introduced Enlightenment values
and granted rights to certain groups. It is important to study and understand these revolutions as they
shaped the modern world.

Treatments so this is going to then lead within the second phase 93 294 to the reign of terror led by
Maximilien Robespierre and you'll be seeing a lot of this in that video so make sure you watch that it's a
very unfortunate phase which you can see kind of an equivalent almost in the move with the late
national socialism moved in the late later part of the second world war where the Nazis were led into
these very harsh practices which they had for exempt the final solution which was ultimately the
execution of the Jews within Europe leaves of gas chambers so we see something similar in the French
Revolution especially we're going to see multiple executions almost 800 a day at one point in the video
