Lesson 1: Climatology – lesson on Drought and Desertification. • Peers assessment- to show the understanding of new context. • AFTER LESSON; 27 July 2021; individual work; a classroom activity. • I will provide each learner will with a question paper that has case studies and pictures so that they will remember what they have seen during the lesson. • Yes • There will be an ongoing feedback, from learners to teacher and from teacher to learners as the assessment is an informal assessment. • Written assessment so that learners will be able to demonstrate their understanding of the content that has been taught and • - accurate: - Objective: to be able to explain the meaning of Drought and Desert, and be able to discuss the main causes, effects and management of Drought and Desertification. - Valid: the assessment will be valid as the outcomes are indicated in the standard CAPS document - Fair: the assessment is fair as all learners are given the same assessment and there is a memorandum to be used as a marking guideline. And I will give relevant sources to learner to enable them remember what they saw during the lesson. - Manageable; the assessment is about what has being taught in class and is part of the curriculum in the standard Annual Teaching Plan(ATP) - Time efficient: much time will be given so that learners are able to complete the assessment • By using the standard Annual Teaching Plan (ATP). • Stick to the syllabus and stay prejudiced. • Instruments that I have used are as follow (Notes and pictures); NOTES ON DROUGHTS AND DESERT A drought means a long period of dry weather during which the lack of rain results in a severe shortage of water. Desertification is the interaction whereby land in semi-bone-dry areas become desert, the fields becomes semi-desert, etc. This is a chain response of sub-types of fauna attacking already useful land and, simultaneously, more inefficient land is made. Desertification goes connected at the hip with sped up soil disintegration. The Effects of Droughts and Desertification on People and the Environment There are three main ways droughts impact lives and communities: 1. Economic impacts of droughts and desertification: • Losses in the timber industry • Losses in the agricultural industry • Losses in the fisheries industry • Job losses • Decrease in the economic growth of a country Many of these losses are then passed on to consumers in the form of higher commodity pricing 2. Social impacts of droughts and desertification ................................................continued,...........................................
