, Intended learning outcomes
At the end of this lesson, every students should be able to:
1.Define differentiation as rate of change
2.State and Solve problems by the first principle
3.Use the table of standard derivative
4.Solve problems involving functions of a function(composite function)
5.Solve problems on products and quotient rule as well as logarithmic an
forms.
6.Differentiate parametric ,polynomial, trig. And inverse trigonometric equa
, Differentiation
Differentiation is atopic under the branch of mathematics called calculus which is concer
the rate of change of one variable or quantity with respect to another variable or quantity.
Differentiation by first principle
The basic method of carrying out differentiation i.e for finding the derivative
function is by the use of first principle on which several theorems are built.
However, theorems can be used to differentiate a function without necessaril
the first principle. But if you are asked to carry out differentiation from first
principle, you have no choice than to do so.
