TRAUMA PATIENT STABILIZATION
INTRODUCTION
CERVICAL INJURIES
Cervical injury is a spinal injury that often causes spinal cord
lesions neurological disorders occur , which can result in disability
and death.
Cervical trauma will occur in patients with a history of high-speed
motor vehicle accidents, significant facial and head trauma,
neurological deficits, neck pain, and multiple traumas.
Symptoms include pain, paralysis, incontinence.
COLLAR NECK INSTALLATION
Definition
Neck collar is an orthopedic device made of medical equipment
used to support the client's spine and head. This tool is used in
patients with a diagnosis of cervical sprain or strain (injury to the
neck muscles or joint ligaments).
The existence of trauma in the spinal area poses a threat to the
continuity of the ventilation process in patients (the cervical spine
contains nerves that supply the lungs).
Installation collar neck is to install a collar neck tool for neck
mobilization (maintaining the cervical spine).
Types of Neck Collar (Cervical Collar)
- Soft cervical collar
- Hard cervical collar
- SOMI (Sternal Occipital Mandibular Immobilizer)
- Xcollar Extrication Collar
Objective
- Provides patent position of the cervical region with suspected or
, Siti Musalama (J210190238)
found signs of cervical injury
- Pain relief
- Restore the position of the spinal cord (spinal cord)
Indication
Patients with signs of deformity (deformity) and crepitations ( sounds
joints caused by joint friction) in the cervical spine
Contraindications
- There is surgery on the airway, such as a tracheostomy
- The presence of a foreign object attached to the neck area, such
as a knife
Tools and materials
- Collar Necks
- Handscon
Action Procedure
1. Identify the presence of crepitus and deformity of the cervical
spine
2. Preparing tools (collar neck), greet the patient, introduce yourself ,
explain the purpose and procedure of the action to be performed
3. Give or ask for information consent in patients
4. Using PPE
5. Position supine and neck anatomically
6. Measuring collar neck with the patient's neck by using your fingers to
measure the distance from the shoulder to the chin
(The collar neck is too short will not function properly , while a
collar neck that is too high causes hyperextension.)
7. Say basmallah
8. Hold the head by holding the mandible in a temporal direction with
both hands between the sides (like a jaw thrust )
9. Enter collar neck slowly to the back of the neck slightly past the
neck
