Gender and Mass Media
Knowing that mass media is a technology that reaches massive people or
audiences, I think the role of mass media in gender and development should be to
promote, influence, and attract not only positivity but also fairness to each gender. We
have seen many people use mass media as the basis of not only everyday news and
entertainment but also social and personal beliefs that change a person completely. The
impact of mass media greatly affects every gender as most information that spreads may
contain stereotyping of gender, changing the beliefs and perspective of a person.
Therefore, the mass media's role should include implementation of fairness in every
gender, such as advertising without involving or seemingly promoting specific gender
capabilities, influencing the audience with the positivity they need regardless of their
gender, and spreading information that does not contain a misrepresentation of any
gender. People who use mass media platforms such as social media should also be
responsible for what they post, share, and comment on, which may trigger negativity and
misinformation towards any gender even if we have freedom of speech as it may influence
other people.
I think both movements portray the gender inequality and unjust system we have
in every country. I noticed that feminism started earlier than the men's rights movement.
It only means that the history we know about the unfairness of the law for the female is
the reason for the feminism movement, and it started when people stereotyped the males
as powerful and dominant to females and females as sex objects and should be
submissive to males. As a society, industry, economy, and each country continue to
change along with the involvement of the feminism movement, so does the law. And the
changes affected the men, which started the men's rights movement. I can say that it is
only fair to start their movement if they do think that the law and other aspects affected
them severely. I do also think that any movement should be done if people are cruelly
affected. A similar principle can be applied to this, which is one of the ethical principles in
ethics, responsible citizenship. As a responsible citizen, obey just laws, and if a law is
unjust, openly protest it. Source: Business Ethics Readings and Cases in Corporate

The movie entitled "The Red Pill" was an eye-opener for me. The whole movie
struck me as a person who only knows that the unjust law and other aspects favor and
benefit men over women. Since I am still a student, I have not engaged literally in an act
or movement for any gender's rights, but I support them verbally. I also agree with all
feminists and people who belong to LGBTQ+ regarding their movement for protesting the
inequality they experience not only from the government but also from the people
surrounding them. I know that men experience struggles, unfairness, and the
