Teaching, learning and assessment work together. Learning cannot take place unless learners are assessed and teaching will not take place without assessment. Assessment gives a way for teaching and learning 2.3 Assessment like learning is not planned but takes place in between learning when learners personally monitor what they are learning to make personal adjustments, adaptions and changes to what they understand. As a teacher this can be used as a way to bridge the gap between learning and teaching, this means that the teachers may ask unplanned questions to link what they are teaching to previous knowledge of the learners, and teacher doesn’t know what learners will ask when they are planning their lessons. However every lesson must have a planned activity. 2.4 continuous assessment includes the different types of assessments. Continuous assessment is, therefore, the umbrella concept under which we identify the types of assessments. 2.5 Success in education is seen by movement from one point to another. In the context of assessment, it could mean a movement between topics, chapters and grades. Assessment determines whether goals of education are being met or not. So assessment evidence ensures that the learner will cope on the next grade. QUESTION 3 3.1 I disagree, there are others who can assess judgement on learner performance that could be the learners themselves, peer groups and the teacher. 3.2 I agree, because both teachers and learners through assessment are able to work towards reaching the goal. 3.3 I agree, the teacher while teaching may come across questions outside her lesson plan and some assessment may come as a shock to learners for teachers to evaluate the learners understanding on certain topics previously taught. 3.4 I agree, in most cases, teaching and learning used continuous assessment approach in order to determine the learner’s comprehension on certain topics. 3.5 I agree. This is because formative assessment helps learners identify their strengths and weaknesses and target areas that need work and summative assessment evaluate learners learning at end of an instructional unit by comparing it against some standard or benchmark. ................................................continued...............................................................
