Transport Maximum
• The limit to the rate at which a solute / substance can be
transported is termed as transport maximum.
• Transport maximum is due to saturation of specific transport
system.
• Amount of solute delivered to tubule is called tubular load.
• Substances that are actively reabsorbed.
, General Characteristics of TM Systems
1- Carriers are easily saturated.
2- Carriers have a high affinity for the substrate.
3- Low back leak.
The entire filtered load is reabsorbed until the carriers are saturated; then th
excess is excreted.
