facilitating the interview process


Job description

I think that my job description is good because it is basic and it gives the applicant all information that
he/she needs to apply for a job. My description is clearly laid out and it gives information on the job title,
location, roles and responsibilities and the rate of pay. The reason why it is short is because it is a basic
job. I will now compare it to the Job description for a Tutor in BTEC business (see appendix 2).

Oxford Tutorial college’s description is clearly laid out and structured extremely well. OTC’s job
description does include the specific responsibilities of the post (which are bulleted), safeguarding,
teaching groups and the number of hours that Tutor would have to work. The OTC job description does
provide more detailed information than my own one. However, because my job is more basic it does not
require as much extra information in it.

Also, OTC has listed their personal description by number. This makes it more clear and it is easy for the
reader to know what skills and qualification he/she needs to apply for a job. Therefore, I recommend
that I include all information in bullets, as it makes it more convenient to read.

However, the OTC’s job description is structured that way that a Head of the BTEC Business or Senior
Management could ask another teacher to cover a lesion if teacher is absent from college. However, my
job description says exactly things that an employee has to do. Therefore, employee can’t be asked to do
any extra work, unless he/she gets extra money for it. In conclusion, I recommend that I include a similar
type of information in my job description.


Person Specification

My person specification is laid out in a table, which makes it really clear for the reader to understand
what are the essential, and desirable criteria. In addition to that, I broke down the criteria in four specific
areas, which are qualifications and knowledge, work related experience, special aptitudes and
personality. This table is easy to use, as an applicant and interview will know exactly question to ask and
then applicant could prepare answers before the interview. I will now compare it to the Job description
for a Tutor in BTEC business (see appendix 3).

Oxford Tutorial College has also a clearly laid out person specification with more criteria in it. However,
my person specification includes criteria for personality, which OTC’s does not have. The reason why it is
good for my person specification to have personality is because an employee will have to communicate
with the customers of a café. Therefore, it is import to know how polite is the person, how friendly
he/she is, how keen and enthusiastic the person about doing his job. OTC’s specification would also
include four main sections with question in each of the parts; this includes experience, skills,
qualifications and other. In conclusion, I think that I should not improve anything in my person
specification, as it gives enough detail for the type of a job that I have introduced.
