Health and Social Care, Life events. Two types of life events - Answer- Expected and unexpected. Expected life event - Answer- An expected life event is one that happens for most people and is something predicted normal that you can plan for. Dealing with a life event - Answer- It can depend on the individual and the circumstances of the life event. Unexpected life event - Answer- An unexpected life event is a life event which would normally not happen and is rare. Physical life event - Answer- Physical events makes changes to your body, physical health or mobility. Relationship changes. - Answer- Relationship changes could mean a new relationship or an end to and old one, it could also mean a difference in current ones that the individual has now. Life circumstances - Answer- This refers to what a person's life situation is right now. For example, rich or poor, married or single, male or female, age, health status, ethnicity, education level. Ill health - Answer- A state of poor physical, mental and/or social well-being Accident and injury - Answer- Accidents always happen unexpectedly accidents will affect a person's mobility and often impacts their independence in the short or long term. Bereavement - Answer- Is the process of coming to terms with the death of someone close. Marriage - Answer- Marriage is a major change in anyone's life, it is an expected life event as most people will when they are older and more mature. Divorce - Answer- The legal ending of a marriage. Although it isn't expected with every marriage, peoples choices and other factors may affect their marriage and lead to a divorce. Parenthood - Answer- Parenting changes ones life and their lifestyle and routines. It is often expected but other factors my impact someone's decision or ability to have children. Adaptation - Answer- Adaptation is to adjust to new conditions or circumstances. Resilience - Answer- Resilience is a person's ability to come to terms with and adapt to life events. Accepting change - Answer- It is impossible for a person to adapt to change unless they can accept what has happened. Giving time - Answer- people may need a long time to adapt. But it depends on an individual and the life event. New relationships - Answer- Relationships are really important for our emotional and social development. Moving house - Answer- It can be exciting because of new experiences but can also cause a lot of stress and anxiety at the physical and mental pressures of moving. Starting or moving school - Answer- It is an opportunity to build new friendships but can also cause anxiety about learning new routines and building relationships. Exclusion from education - Answer- It can cause lower self-image and self-esteem. It may also affect learning and loss of friendships. Redundancy - Answer- Loss of earning may impact on diet and lifestyle choices and ability to socialize, but it may provide new opportunities to take new challenges and careers. Imprisonment - Answer- It may lower self-esteem and self-image and loss of independence and loss of social contact because of isolation. Retirement - Answer- May reduce stress, give more time to see family but may lose relationships with colleagues. Effective support - Answer- If a life event is expected an individual can be given support before the life event happens. Emotional support - Answer- Emotional support is essential to help individuals cope with all life events. Information and advice - Answer- When life events happen people often feel they do not know what to do. Information and advice is important because it helps people to understand. Practical help - Answer- Practical help can influence financial help, childcare and transport.
