[ISBN-978-0-520-27093-0] Readings posted on Moodle COURSE DESCRIPTION In this course, we will study adolescents (approximately 11-17 years old) and emerging adults (approximately 18-25 years old) using a life course perspective. We will learn about adolescent development, including puberty and cognition. We will learn about how adolescents interact with their families, friends, peers, romantic interests, and teachers. We will study the ways in which adolescents’ social experiences vary by race, ethnicity, class, and gender. We will also explore the transition to adulthood. We will read about traditional pathways to adulthood as well as how vulnerable populations (adolescents who have mental health issues, are homeless, in foster care, in the juvenile justice system, etc.) experience the transition from youth to independent adulthood. This course has been designated for credit in Upper Division Honors Program, to which students must apply.
