“Pride and Prejudice” is the most famous work of Jane Austen and is definitely one of the
most important novels in the world of literature. It was published anonymously in three volumes
in 1813.
It concentrates on the burgeoning relationship between Elizabeth Bennet, the daughter of a
country gentleman and the novel’s heroine, and Fitzwilliam Darcy, an aristocratic landowner. It is
set in rural England at the turn of the 19th century, and it follows the Bennet family, which includes
five very different sisters, all of whom their mother is keen to see suitably married. The
intersections of these sisters with several eligible bachelors drive the action of the novel. Despite
initial friction between them, Elizabeth eventually accepts Darcy’s proposal of marriage.

As they are the fundamental and often universal ideas explored in a literary work, the
themes of “Pride and Prejudice” are as follows: overcoming obstacles for true love, social class,
class distinction, the role of women, strength of family connections, integrity and behavior.

“Great Expectations”, novel written by Charles Dickens, first published serially in All the
Year Round in 1860–61 and issued in book form in 1861. The classic novel was one of its author’s
greatest critical and popular successes.
The novel chronicles the coming to age of the orphan Pip, while also addressing such issues
as social class and human worth.
Pip grows up in the marshlands of Kent, where he lives with his disagreeable sister and her
sweet-natured husband. Requested to pay visits to Miss Havisham, Pip falls in love with the
adopted daughter, Estella. Because she doesn’t return his affection, Pip hopes to become a
gentleman.
Several years later an anonymous benefactor has made it possible for Pip to go to London
for an education. He is horrified to discover that his mysterious benefactor is an escaped convict.
While the convict is arrested, Pip’s health prevents him from being jailed.
Later, he accepts a job offer and enjoys a simple but content life. After more than 10 years
away, he returns to England and encounters Estella, who is now a widow. As they leave, Pip takes
her hand, believing that they will not part again.
As being the fundamental and often universal ideas explored in a literary work, the themes
of “Great Expectations” are as follows: social class, ambition, integrity and reputation, justice,
innocence, guilt, education.
