One similarity between Unlock and No Knives Better Lives is that they both
have large teams of influential people working for the campaign. Unlock, while
founded by ex-convicts, has a large staff of academics and people who are
involved and qualified with law. Unlock can be considered as a pressure group
which is a group that aims to influence elected officials to act or make a change
on a specific issue. No Knives Better Lives is a national campaign which was
started by the Scottish government and YouthLink Scotland: the campaign is
more based on influencing the public. This shows a similarity between Unlock
and No Knives Better Lives because both campaigns have very influential
people involved with it and the people involved have key skills which will help
each of their campaigns reach their end goal. This means both campaigns have
people who can aid in persuading society to believe and join their campaign to
make a change since people will have more trust since the government is
involved in No Knives Better Lives and they will also trust people who are
qualified in the law that policies should be changed in Unlock. One difference
between Unlock and No Knives better Lives is the overall aim their campaigns
have. No Knives Better Lives wants to change the priorities agencies have and
make agencies like schools prioritise knife crime education and detail the
consequences and why you shouldn’t get involved with it. Unlock, however,
wants to change policies in regard to convicts being able to get a job or bank
account and that they shouldn’t be discriminated against because of their
criminal record. This is a difference between both campaigns aren’t aiming for
the same type of change since unlock may be campaigning for a law change
while No Knives better Lives isn’t: No Knives Better Lives mainly focuses on
influencing the public so they change whereas Unlock mainly focuses on
influencing businesses and the government.
