Application and limits of Programming Languages

Procedural Programming
Procedural programming is where the program is broken down into procedures and functions.
Procedural programming uses multiple procedures that are linked to the main program. A limitation
of procedural is graphical user interface programs. Each and every procedure has a specific purpose
and it is called by the main programming code when the user enters a command to do something.
Procedural is easy to understand and it is also fairly straightforward to learn for beginners.

Object Oriented
Object-oriented is something which breaks down a program into objects. Object oriented is different
to procedural because it follows a different structural format to procedural programming. Object
oriented was developed to deal with the complexities of more advanced systems when procedural
programming couldn’t deal with the difficulties the system faced. Object oriented links data and
functions together in the building blocks of objects. Objects in this form of programming are based
on real-world objects which are relevant to the system being developed. Objects are commonly
related to classes. Java and C++ are examples of object oriented.

Event Driven
Event driven programming is where a program responds to an event that has happened due to the
user input such as clicking a button or typing something in a text box. Event driven programming is
different to the other programming languages as the system doesn’t respond to the structure of the
program. Event driven programming follows the movement of the user and this therefore
determines the flow of the program. It also requires the programmer to write event procedures that
correspond with the user’s inputs. And since the program is interactive, many event driven programs
will use a graphical user interface. However, event driven programming uses more processing power
and memory than the other two programming languages.

CASE Tools
CASE is the abbreviation for Computer-Aided Software Engineering. It is the domain of software tools
and they are designed to automate various parts of the software development process. Used to
design and implement applications. An example of a Computer-Aided Software Engineering (CASE)
application that I have used is Microsoft Visio. Visio is a diagramming and vector graphics application
made by Microsoft. On Visio, I made designs for the event driven programming graphical interface.

IDE
IDE stands for Integrated Development Environment. It is a software application that provides
facilities to computer programmers and this is for software development. An integrated
development environment normally includes a source code editor, build automation tools and a
debugger. An example of an IDE is Microsoft Visual Basic. Visual Studio includes a code editor that
supports IntelliSense as well as code refactoring. It is suitable for making programs for beginners
because it is easy to understand and make programs. 3 million software developers use it. This is a
screenshot for Visual Basic:
