Individual Organizational Problem Analysis Assignment Guideline The aim of this assignment is to demonstrate your knowledge of organizational behavior by studying a failure from a holistic organizational perspective,, (i.e., across all three levels of organizational behavior (individual, interpersonal, and organizational). Companies, nonprofits, clubs, and governments can damage their relationships with important stakeholders or even cause harm to their employees. Some of these failures can be the result of neglecting organizational behavior factors. You will need to select an organisational failure that occurred in the last two years. After identifying a failure, your task is to identify organisational behaviour theories, concepts, and ideas presented throughout the course, that best explain the cause of the failure, and then to evaluate what the organisation did to recover from the failure. The assignment should contain the following elements (You may structure your report using the headings of points 1-4 below): 1. Identification of the failure and context: Describe what happened, the context in which it occurred, and the consequences for the organisation's stakeholders. This section is meant to provide context for the failure. It should explain who was affected and how, or how it disadvantages the organisation and/or its members, or other stakeholders. (5 marks; 250 words max.) 2. Analysis of organisational behaviour factors: Building on the description above, identify, analyse and discuss in detail three organisational behaviour theories, concepts, and ideas that contributed to the problem / failure. The theories chosen must have been presented throughout the course (textbook or module) and include one of each of the following: (15 marks; 750 words max.) • 1x individual level theory (chosen from Topics 2-5) • 1x group level theory (chosen from Topics 6-8) • 1x organisational level theory (chosen from Topics 9-11) 3. Consideration of response OR Consequence of ignoring failure: Describe what the organisation did to achieve success, or post-failure, to address the problem and/or prevent a reoccurrence of the problem. Evaluate the effectiveness of the organisation’s response to the failure, from the perspective of organisational theories, concepts, and ideas presented throughout the course. If the organisation did not address the failure, describe the longterm consequences that may occur from ignoring the failure. (10 marks; 500 words max.) 4. Recommendations: Drawing on the organisational theories and concepts, you have already identified, make recommendations for what the organisation could have been done better and/or what could be done moving forward to resolve the issue. In making these recommendations, ensure that they are pragmatic, specific (i.e., make recommendations that are viable, actionable, and within the organisation’s capacity to implement) and supported by organizational research (i.e., back up your claims with quality references). Your discussion should provide a critique highlighting the strengths and potential limitations of your recommendations supported by high-quality academic literature. (10 marks; 500 words max.) 5. Additional criteria involve a command of academic writing (5 marks) and appropriate referencing. (5 marks) General notes: • You must uphold academic integrity when completing this assignment. • Include a coversheet, which is available on the course Blackboard site in the Assignments section. • Section headings: £ Identification of the failure and context £ Analysis of organisational behaviour factors £ Consideration of response/consequence of ignoring failure £ Recommendations • The word limit for the report is 2000 words, with the word limits applied to each section outlined above. Penalties are enforced for under-achieving or exceeding these limits by 10%. Include a word count on the front page of your assignment. • You must cite and reference at least 10 articles sourced from A*, A, and B ranked journals listed in the ABDC journal rankings list. These journals are considered quality academic publications. • The organisational failure selected must have happened within the last two years. If you choose to discuss an organisational failure that occurred more than two years ago, the highest possible mark you can receive is 50%. • Referencing (including intext citations) should follow the Academy of Management (AMJ) referencing style. ( • Only articles cited in the body of your report can be listed in the reference list. • You may include appendices to support your arguments, but you cannot assume material in your appendices will be read in detail. Appendices will not be graded. • Appendices and references are not counted in your total word count. • Format: Double spaced; 2.5cm (1 inch) margins using Times New Roman 12pt font

Identification of the failure and context

On July 23, 2021, an Australian court fined Lorna Jane Pty Ltd USD3.7 million for

stating their clothes could prevent coronavirus, a statement judge called exploitative,

opportunistic, and potentially dangerous. The Australian Competition and Consumer

Commission (ACCC) sued the firm last year after it claimed its LJ Shield Activewear collection

could eliminate and stop the spread and could protect wearers against the disease (ACCC, 2021)

The Company’s "groundbreaking technology" promises were made on in-store signage, its

website, Instagram, emails to consumers, and press releases. The Covid-19 epidemic slowed

sales, causing the firm to default on financial agreements with its lenders. However, the lawsuit's

financial losses precipitated its bankruptcy. Edwards (2021) says the bankruptcy reduced the

value of the common stock and stopped it from paying dividends making its stock delisted from

major exchanges. Shareholders suffer when a firm they own goes bankrupt. They rarely make

money. Edwards (2021) asserts that the firm's assets will be sold in part or whole, affecting its

value and the dividends paid to shareholders. Though it does not signal the end of the road for

Loran Jane, its bankruptcy limits its future commercial opportunities because, to start a new firm,

one must get a business permit from the government's business licensing agency. Lorna Jane

struggled due to customer misunderstanding. Its misleading adverts brought immense effects on

the company. It did not only damage its brand image but also led to the lawsuit which led to

financial damages and bankruptcy.
