We used methods by Glanzer and Cunitz (1966) to investigate the serial position

effects on the probability of recall in delayed and immediate recall conditions. Participants

were 899 first-years Psychology students at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. The students

were presented with 15 words, and later asked to recall the words immediately (in the

immediate conditions), or after a short distraction (in the delayed conditions). The results

showed a clear primacy and no recency effect in both conditions. These results suggest that

conditions have no effects on either probability of recall of words presented at the beginning

of the list or on the words presented at the end of the list.
