Before starting looking at the sections separately, its important to note that by using external
points of reference ( e.g. eyes, ears, nose and eyes ), we can approximately locate the inner
sections of the brain.
The image below helps visualise a bit better.
→ The brainstem starts at the back of the ear (the bottom of the ear)
→ The midbrain is at the level of your eyes
→ The thalamus is approximately at eyebrow level
→ Posterior to the earlobe is the cerebellum
Cuts of the brain:
When neuroanatomist explore the brain, they have to use specific sections(cuts). They cannot
randomly open the brain. These specific sections are then used to explore, define and localise
the cortical and subcortical structures.
