Introduction
The goal of the experiment was to get acquainted with recrystallization & TLC as methods to
identify an unknown carbonyl compound. The carbonyl compound would react with methyl
hydrazinocarboxylate into the corresponding carboxymethoxyhydrazone. Rf values and
melting points were given about these carbomethoxy hydrazones and will subsequently aid in
the determination of the unknown compound. Unknown A was chosen in this experiment to
be identified.
