• You have 3 hours to answer the questions (90 minutes for each part of the exam) and 25
minutes to prepare a file with your answers and submit it. It is strongly recommended
that you allocate 90 minutes for each part of the exam.
• When done, prepare one file, containing your answers (typed, scanned or photographed)
for submission. Make sure, however, to organize your file so that all your answers to
the optimization part (in order of the questions) would be followed by all your answers
to the Stochastic part (also in order of the questions) - Don’t answer any two or more
questions on the same page. To make sure that you properly submit your answers, stop
writing and start the preparation of the file no later than 3 hours after downloading.
The extra 25 minutes are for preparation and submission. The submission link will be
automatically locked exactly at 8:25pm, so not stopping after 3 hours may result in
missing the opportunity to submit. If that happens (it shouldn’t!), email your file as
soon as possible to ALL GSIs 240 (mo , shuo , shu-
nan ) and ALL GSIs 241 (mengzi , ziyang ,
jingxu ) with a copy to . Any submission by email
after time expires will be penalized.
• To MBA/MEng students only: if you take only one part, please indicate so in
the first page (with your name) of the exam. You’ll have 90 minutes to answer the
questions and your (strict) submission deadline is 6:55pm.
• To submit, upload the answers in one pdf file to gradescope and assign pages to the
corresponding questions.
• Be sure to sign the honor code statement (that appears on the first page of the exam)
with your (typed) name, SID, and signature. You need to include this signed page as
the first page of the submitted answers file. Failure to do so will result in a total
of 0 points.
• The exam is an ”open book” so you can use whatever resource you like. However,
no communication whatsoever (e.g. text, any messaging platform, email, phone, etc.)
with anyone regarding the exam and anything related to IEOR 240/241 and/or their
content is allowed during the period (Tuesday, 12/06 @ 5:00pm (PST) - 12/06 @ 8:30pm
(PST)). Your honor code’s signature will certify this pledge. Any violation of this
communication prohibition will result in a total of 0 points and potential
misconduct complaint to Student Conduct.
• Note that the teaching team (instructors and GSI’s) will not be available to answer
questions during the period the exam is open. If you have problems interpreting a
question or part of it, state clearly your interpretation and solve the problem accord-
ingly. Answers consistent with reasonable interpretation will get full credit (however,
unjustified interpretation will be considered as a wrong answer.
