1. Explain what happens when a spring is suspended and given a load!
Answer: The greater the mass of the load, the longer the spring will
be. Because the mass of the load greatly affects the extension of
the spring. In addition, the reason why the spring is easily extended
by the load is because the spring is made of elastic material.
2. Explain the difference between elastic and plastic objects!
Answer: Elastic objects are objects that have the ability to return to
their original state when the force exerted on them is removed.
While plastic objects are objects that do not have the ability to
return to their original shape when the force exerted on them is
removed. So elastic objects when pulled can return to their original
shape while plastic objects when pulled do not return to their
original shape.
3. Tell us about your experience during the static electricity practical!
Why can paper be attracted by plastic that has been rubbed on dry
hair?
Answer: initially the plastic ruler has a neutral charge so it cannot
attract the paper after rubbing it on dry hair, the plastic ruler has a
static electric charge. Because plastic is not a good conductor of
electricity, the electric charge builds up on the plastic ruler so that
the plastic ruler can attract pieces of paper.
4. Make a list of objects that can/cannot be attracted by magnets!
Answer:
Can be attracted by a magnet
- Scissors
- Needle
- Safety pins
- Fridge door
- Spoon
- Fork
- Nails
Cannot be magnetised
- Plastic ruler
- Plastic bag
- Water
- Fabric
