Introduction
Acculturation is adopting a new culture's values, beliefs, and customs. My experience
assimilating into the clinic's culture has been educational and inspiring. I fully immersed myself
in the distinctive nursing culture and ideals after moving from the academic to the professional
world. Given the growing diversity of nursing students and the nursing workforce, nurses
increasingly interact with people from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds (Lor et al., 2016).
There is a period of adjustment necessary when moving from the position of a nursing student to
the job of a nurse in this culture. This is because they are moving from a controlled setting into
one that is more natural and demands that they care for sick people. Many newly graduated
nurses encounter challenges such as job discontent, reality, stress, and shock (Lor et al., 2016). In
this paper, I compare and contrast my acculturation experiences as a recent college graduate with
those of a nurse who recently joined my team.
My Acculturation Experience
Having a mentor who believed in me and encouraged me made my time as a new nurse
great. The nurse in charge was familiar with every division and their respective heads. My
mentor helped me to quickly assimilate into society and absorb as much information as possible.

and feedback. Nurses in all of the several areas I visited were friendly and helpful. I improved
upon my weaknesses because of the patience shown to me.
I provided input and received comments directly from my supervisor. I could voice my
opinions and obtain help where I needed it, and I learned a lot from hearing the stories of other
