Problems
Confidential informants are considered vital in the fight against crime. According to
Rocheleau (n.d) confidential informants have been used worldwide to infiltrate and gather
intelligence on criminals and criminal organizations. Law enforcement agencies have had trouble
with confidential informants who continue to breach the law after being hired. It is common
practice for these informants to commit more crimes while simultaneously warning other
offenders of impending difficulty with the authorities. Due to their biases, some informants may
leak information about the wrong people.
Review
Police work and other law enforcement activities rely heavily on confidential informants.
However, the government can only utilize the testimony of a confidential informant if the
accused person is allowed to cross-examine the informant. The program's integrity and
effectiveness depend on the agency's commitment to best practices and general program upkeep
(Duseau, 2019). The program needs new policies and processes to keep these values safe.
Objectives
Agencies must conduct assessments to know what aspects of CI contribute most to the
