Laws of The Right to Work
Right to Work legislation protects employees and their employers by preventing unions
from gaining monopoly power and allowing workers more freedom of association. President
Franklin D. Roosevelt enacted these laws to ensure workers were not penalized for not joining a
union (Bornstein, 2019). The creation of this policy restored balance to the unfair conditions in
many organizations and unions today. Their impact on the economy, labor markets, and
individual workers must be assessed. The government stepped in to make laws that would
protect employees and employers from mistreatment and exploitation. Unions were formed to
represent workers in disputes and other issues linked to their jobs. Bargaining on behalf of its
members' unions has restored some agency to the workforce.
With these laws, Unions will be better able to care for their employees and provide better
services to their members, which gives workers the right to choose whether or not they wish to
be unionized. Because there would be fewer teacher unions to lobby for higher taxes, state and
school taxation would decrease. Some people believe unions are particularly corrupt because
their members are motivated only by financial gain; more specifically, they claim that unions pay
large sums of money to politicians in exchange for their support by endorsing the union. Last but
not least, unions would start monopolizing everything if not for the Right Work Law, which the
Right to Work Laws prevent by taking some, but not all, authority away from unions aiming to
dominate.
Deciding whether these laws break the NLRA is at the center of the argument around
