3. FACTORS THAT DRIVE DEPRESSION:
1) Personal Sin
-David's life was miserable before confessing his sin. Once he confessed his
unrighteousness his depression lifted (Psalm 32)
-Asaph's misery was caused by an improper understanding of the world. Once his
perspective shifted to the eternal his perspective changed (Psalm 73)
2) Sinful response to difficult circumstances.
-Paul responds rightly to trials. Sinful response to trials leads you to #1. He's really
suffering. He's rightly responding to the difficult circumstances. The things that are
sorrowful. (2 Cor 4:7-10)
3) Biological problems
We need to be careful and nuanced in our understanding of biological issues and
biblical counseling.
-Wrong position: Struggles (i.e. temptation) with depression are a product of personal
sin only. This is essentially Gnosticism.
-Wrong position: Depression is a product of biology and therefore must be treated only
on a body level. This is Materialism.

Righteousness:
- Anger when God is not glorified
- God is angry towards the wicked every day
Unrighteousness:
- anger is an issue of a selfishly filled heart that when squeezed by temptation pours
wickedness out of the mouth or to our thoughts (Mark 7:21, Matt. 12:34)
