P1 Describe hardware and software used to create and edit graphics
Introduction:
In this assignment, I will be describe multiple components and software that a graphics designer can
use to design content. This documentation should help anyone get to know what each component
does, and how they help for graphics designers build their own computers for their own needs.
Component: Uses: Price:
CPU CPU is one of the most important components to have. A graphics £200
designer must have at least a standard cpu in order to complete
tasks. It must be able to work under pressure. A dual core cpu is
needed (at least) to work with most photo editing software. The
better the cpu is, the more tasks (the faster it is) it can handle to
complete, and so it would not slow down any work whatsoever.
Graphics Card It is important to have a good graphics card as rendering an £130.60
image/video will use the graphics card resources as well as the
cpu’s and the ram’s. The better the GPU is in the computer, the
faster it will render and the more pressure it will be able to
handle.
Monitor For graphics designers, it is essential to have a monitor on which £116.99
they can work on, edit their images. It’s important also have a
good quality screen, so more details could be shown on it, and
colours would also be correct, showing real-life colours and not
over saturated, vivid ones.
Hard Disk (including SSD) Hard drives can store information, so having a large amount of £54.99
free space is needed, especially for designers to save all of their
files. 1TB can enable users to store tens of thousands of high
resolution images, videos, music etc. SSDs on the other hand are
important as they are most known for their speed. They’re much
faster than the standard Hard drives, however most of them are
very costly and have less space when they’re compared. It is
recommended to have system files installed on SSDs, so the
system itself would load and handle certain tasks really fast, must
faster than standard hard drives.
RAM (Random Access Memory) It’s important to have a fast ram built in £37.99
the computer with a lot of storage so it can handle more tasks that
are given to it. For graphics designers, it’s important to have a fast
ram with a lot of gigabytes as they’re going to be able to multitask
and get more things done. The ram’s resources might also be used
for rendering images, so it’s important to choose one that suits all
the user’s needs.
Cache Cache will help to keep the computer fast and handle more tasks. -
The more cache is on the computer, the faster it’s going to be.
External storage e.g. This is very similar to hard drives. Each memory cards have £20
memory cards different classes, and the higher the class of the card is, the faster
it can be read on the computer, the faster it can copy and do
certain things with it. The higher the storage, the more files it can
store on its own. It is important to have a memory card that can

have enough space to hold tens of thousands of images, recorded
videos, sound.
Digital Camera A camera is essential for designers. It’s important to have a good £345.99
camera as these users will most probably use it all the time. Good
lenses are important, and must mention that having separate
lenses for different purposes are also essential. Wide angle lenses
may be useful for landscape images, while a different lense with
60x optical zoom may be needed to do close ups or just simply
zoom in while having the same quality.
Printer A business printer may save a lot of money, as they are built to £37.99
print a large amount of documents. They are needed, so
maintaining the printer would cost less on the long run as they
would not run out of ink after 100 documents printed. Some
printers may offer more functions, so it’s important to find the one
that gets the user’s job done in the best, more efficient way.
Scanner A scanner may be used to scan hand drawn images, etc. onto the Included with

large amount of data can take minutes and hours to send and
receive, so the faster the wifi and the connection is, the less time
it would take to receive and send.
Keyboard A good keyboard is needed as the job can require designers to £24.99
make reports, analyses and other important tasks done, so it’s
important and essential to have one that suits all the needs. It
must be able to make its user comfortable enough, so they could
type faster, get their tasks done easier etc.
Mouse A good mouse with a high dpi (Dots per inch) is needed to be £79.99
more precise and get job done well. DPI also affects the speed and
overall performance of the mouse, so the higher it is, the better it
is. It is also important to have a mouse that is comfortable enough
to hold for hours, so that would make getting things done much
quicker and more comfortable.
