M1: Analyse how a selected website has been designed to meet the requirements of its
target audience.
In this assignment I will be taking the website of a selected organisation, which will be eBay.
Then I will be looking at how their website has been designed to meet the requirements of
the eBay target audience.
And I will be explaining how eBay used vital features that were glanced upon in the last
assignments to make sure the website to meet the requirements of their target audience.
Then I will be looking at 2 articles and sources that will back up the findings that I have
found. The links to these articles will be found at the end of the report in the bibliography.
When looking at websites there is always a specific design that is chosen but then it is down
to the type of company that you are looking at and how they work around this default design.
Because eBay is a multinational e-commerce and most of the customers that they are going
to be aiming their products are of all ages, this gives them the idea that they need to make
sure that the website is flexible enough as they will be appealing to a wide range of ages
from young to elder.
Target Audience
The target audience that eBay aim their products at are from what I have gathered people
over the age of 18.” In addition, you need to be at least 18 years old to register on eBay
because eBay is available only to individuals who can form legally binding contracts under
applicable law. If you are under the age of 18, you can use eBay only in conjunction with,
and under the supervision of your parents or guardians.”
This is because the minimum age that you can be to register an eBay account is 18 and also
when buying/selling products you must also enter a paypal which has an age restriction of
18. The reason for this age restriction is due to some of the products being age restricted
themselves and not suitable for people under the age of 18.
The Website
Now when looking at the website firstly I will be looking at the navigation aspect that has
been used. On the website they have made sure that they have made the links all clear etc.
This is also down to the way that eBay use the white spaces, they don’t use too much but
not too little, this also compliments the products that they are selling. This is because they
made sure that where the product is shown, the colour scheme is brighter than the colour
scheme of the website.
This making sure the products or the sales that are on, can be seen clearly by any
customers using the website. Another thing that eBay do is they make sure that pictures are
included on the website this in turning making the web page more appealing to any
customers. It also helps navigation aspects because the pictures themselves are link or the
