AC3 - Care of Patients with Dysrhythmias
Steps to EKG Interpretation
1. Determine rate
2. Determine intervals
3. Determine rhythm
4. Assess for abnormalities
Inherent Rates
• SA node = 60 to 100 beats/min
• AV node = 40 to 60 beats/min
• Ventricles (Purkinje fibers) = 20 to 40 beats/min
, lOMoARcPSD|20734855
Conduction + Cardiac Cycle
ECG Basics Review
• P wave - atrial depolarization
• QRS – ventricular depolarization
• T wave – ventricular repolarization
• PR interval – beginning of P wave to beginning of QRS
o Used to determine AV nodal conduction time
• QT interval – beginning of QRS to end of T wave
• Ventricular depolarization and ventricular repolarization
• ST segment – end of QRS to beginning of T wave
o end of ventricular depolarization to beginning of ventricular repolarization
