Test I. Discuss in brief significance of the following terms in relation to education.
1. Philosophy to Education
As we expound Philosophy in simple term, it is an activity where people undertake when
they seek to understand fundamental truths about themselves; the world in which they
live, their relationships to the world and to each other. While, education is the application
of the fundamental principles of philosophy. Which gives ideals, values and principles. If
having an education without philosophy is like a tourist who knows the name of the place
where he wishes to go but does not know how to find the place. Because two of them
helps students to develop both their capacity and their inclination to do critical thinking.
On the other hand, disciplines also help in fulfilling this function, but philosophy
contributes distinctively, extensively, and intensively to a student's ability to think critically.
2. Psychology to Education
As we relate Psychology to Education in simple term, it is a study on how people learn
and retain knowledge. Through their relationships they help improve learning process and
promote educational success for all students. Because it enables a teacher to guide the
learners and to channel student’s abilities in right direction.
3. Sociology to Education
As we connect the relationship between Sociology to Education in simple term, it means
that it helps teachers to be aware of certain outcomes of a group's behavior or individual
behavior, and to understand their attitudes, beliefs and values of those around them. In
this way, educators can assess where the problems are and how they will solve it or how
they will fill in the gaps. Because sociology of education look into the ways in which
individuals’ experiences affect their educational achievement and outcomes.

1. Froebel
Friedrich Wilhelm August Frobel quoted that “play is the highest expression of human
development in childhood for it alone is the free expression of what is in the child's soul.”
In simplest term, play is the principle of learning in early childhood. Because when they
play, children construct their understanding of the world through direct experience with it.
, 2. Dewey
A scholar that is notable for his pragmatism view of education is Melville Louis Kossuth
Dewey. His research emphasized the value of imagination in moving thinking and learning
forward and recommended that teachers give their children the chance to suspend
judgment, contemplate possibilities in a playful manner, and investigate improbable
scenarios.
3. Socrates
Socrates was a Greek philosopher, he believed that philosophy should achieve practical
results for the greater well-being of society. Through this, he attempted to establish an
ethical system based on human reason rather than theological doctrine. Furthermore, his
study pointed out that human choice was motivated by the desire for happiness.

1. Pragmatism
The role of a teacher in pragmatism theory is a friend, and a helper of the student. The
educator provide the child with opportunities for experimenting in the school and on the
field. The whole school environment should be more practical for life and encourage them to
grow into better people. Because the educational purpose of this theory is that education
should be about life and growth.
2. Idealism
The role of a teacher in idealism theory is to encourage students to explore knowledge
on their own, and it promotes universal education. With that, the educator should provide
only enough guidance to help them along the way, since they will learn at their own pace.
Because the educational purpose of this theory are about truth, beauty, and goodness.
That will lead to the development of a moral character of the learners and aims at self-
realization of all individuals by one’s own efforts.
3. Realism
The role of a teacher in realism theory is an organizer, systematizer, and promoter of
critical thinking. These are mainly involves teaching methodologies that have students
doing and experiencing things rather than just listening to the discussion. Because realist
educators encourage students to extract their observations and conclusions from the
world around them rather than confining themselves to an analysis of their own ideas.
4. Existentialism
The role of a teacher in existentialism theory is quite different to other theories. An
existentialist teacher is not the center of the instruction but rather a facilitator. Its purpose
is to help students better understand who they are as individuals. This also means that
the student should have a choice in what they learn and that the curriculum needs to be
somewhat flexible. Because you train the learners to develop their own unique
understanding of life.
