The Audrey Hepburn inspired chocolate is a short advertisement by Galaxy Chocolate. It is
made to lure the audience in a way that would convince people that Audrey Hepburn is
actually the one portraying the character. Audrey Hepburn, a British actress and
humanitarian, who was also a fashion icon and a part of what many would call Hollywood’s
Golden Age, is recreated in this quite impressive commercial for Galaxy Chocolate.
The advertisement starts off with an eye-catching scenery at a small village showing off the
mountains and ocean. A man riding on a bicycle passes by and another man starts fussing off
at the bus driver that crashes into his baskets of fruits. The main character, Audrey, is seen
sitting in the bus as she peeks through her bag that contains the main product, Galaxy
Chocolate. Just like the rest of the passengers in the bus, Audrey was impatient and was
curious to know how long the journey would be delayed. Not long after, a striking middle-
aged man drives up and passes through the bus and stops by the road. As Audrey looks out by
her window, she notices and makes eye contact with the man in the fancy blue convertible
car. She gives him a whimsical smile in return and the man insists that he offers her a ride in
his car. Without a second thought, she walks out of the bus and innocently takes the hat off
the bus driver and places it on the head of the gentleman driving the car. His facial expression
turn from a smile to a confusion as Audrey closes back the door to the front seat of the car.
Instead, she takes a seat at the back and the man follows along and drives away with her. The
commercial ends with Audrey taking a bite of the long-awaited scrumptious chocolate that
she had been anticipating to eat and a “phrase” displays in end of the scene showing “Why
have cotton when you can have silk?”.
Persuasive Techniques
Mini fiction:
The setting took place in the 1960s era with the main character portraying as Audrey
Hepburn. The whole concept suggests a flirtatious storyline. The metaphor behind this
advertisement is denoting that by differentiating oneself from the masses, one can project an
image of uniqueness. Audrey teaches the audience to have class. This is demonstrated by her
choice of riding a car rather than riding the bus like the rest of the masses.
Music:
In this advertisement, “Moon River” sung by Audrey Hepburn herself is heard playing in the
background. This seemed to capture the audience’s attention as the main character is created
to look like Audrey Hepburn. This advertisement does not only promote the product but also
leaves the audience intrigued to who Audrey Hepburn was. The music also has a soft lullaby
rhythm to it and makes the audience feel calm.
