You need to address theories or models of structure, managerial leadership and the organizational culture of H & M in the global environment. Given the challenges created by the factory accident in 2013, you prepare for interview discussions related to ethics and the ability of H & M to attain their stated goal of paying a living wage by 2018. With the global expansion, you wish to determine how the leadership of H & M has accomplished their success and sustainability while addressing risk and diversification issues. You acknowledge the need to evaluate the key barriers of internationalization and the how they can be overcome these dynamic barriers. You wish to be prepared to evaluate and critique the key strategies adopted by H & M. Your presentation should address the following discussion points and questions: Evaluate how operating in a global market influences an organization’s structure, culture and functions a. Briefly explain the McKinsey 7S model of organizational structure. How does the global market influence H & M (or the company of your choice) in the context of this model? Use the McKinsey 7S model worksheet, provided on the Moodle class site, to assess current and future decision making, strategy and interconnected variables to effect meaningful change at H & M (or the company of your choice). b. Leadership’s governance of a global organization is a dynamic key to growth and profitability. Evaluate the sustainability department of H & M (or the company of your choice) and assess the influence of global market influences on strategic decision making. Describe the sustainability department at H & M (or the company of your choice), the goals and structure to provide leadership within the international environment. c. Evaluate the impact of globalization on markets, production and expansion in international companies. Evaluate the main elements of culture and their influences on business policies and practices. Using Hofstede’s Dimensions of Culture, evaluate how national cultural differences influence H & M (or the company of your choice). • From the MARKETS & EXPANSION section of H & M’s website, select one country targeted as new markets for H & M stores in 2017. In case you are using different company, select a country where the company can expand. • From the Geert Hofstede website/Tools/Compare Countries: Define the national cultural differences of this country targeted as this new market based on Hofstede’s 6D Model and evaluate the impact on H & M (or company of your choice) operations. d. Globalization can be referred to be the process in which businesses or organizations

are seen to develop their international influences or start operating in a scale that is

international. Globalization has nowadays become so popular and has brought great impact in

the global economy and business. For instance, globalization has been seen to revolutionize

the fashion industry in one way or another. A good example is how the H&M has been able to

integrate economically in the global market. This has greatly helped in improving the

performance of H&M Company. H&M came to go global as a result of fast fashion

development and their ability to sell the fashionable clothes at low prices. This made it

possible for H&M to sell more and meet their goal. H&M has always had a goal to continue

expanding and as a result increasing the number of the stores they own by a significant

percentage every year. This paper will discuss how the company can be analyzed using the

McKinsey’s model, provide an evaluation of the sustainability department of H&M and the

impacts of globalization on H&M while putting into consideration the ethical considerations.

McKinsey 7s model

The design of the company can be analyzed by use of the McKinsey 7s model. The

model is a tool that is used to analyze the organizational design of the firm by having a look at

the key internal elements. The key elements in the model are strategy, structure, shared values,

systems, skills, systems, and skills. Since its development by McKinsey consultants, the

model has been seen to be widely used since it is known to be one of the well-known strategic

planning tools. It is seen to emphasize on human resources and not the traditional mass

production tangibles which include equipment, infrastructure and capital. These are viewed as

the key to high performance by the organization. The seven elements of the model are all

interconnected and whenever change is made in a single area, it would result to change being

needed in the rest of the elements for a firm to properly function.
