GEOLOGICAL STRUCTURE
Geological structure refers to the arrangement of rocks in the earth’s crust.
Geological structure that influences the shape of the landscapes that
determine the degree of landslide hazard, bring old rocks to the surface & bury
young rocks as result trap the Petroleum and Natural gas.
It also refers to the three-dimensional arrangement of rocks units, minerals
deposit and other geological feature on the earth’s crust.
Folds and Faults and other geological structure accumulate large forces e.g. the
stress of Tectonic Plates and small forces e.g. the stress of gravity pulling on a
steep mountainside.
Some specific types of geological structure that can break and bend that
deform the rocks are:
FOLDS: The bending of rock strata due to compressional forces acting
horizontally towards a common point or plane from opposite direction is
known as folding.
TYPES OF FOLDS
1. Symmetrical fold: Folds which are axial plane is vertical. They are formed
when compressive forces regularly act with moderate intensity.
