Preparaton 1 - Separaton techniquesn Rock and Salt
Aim: To separate the salt from the rock and salt mixture which would then be used in order to
calculate its percentage yield.
Equipment:
- Rock and salt mixture
- Tripod
- Conical fask
-Stirring rod
- Balance
-Metal gauze
- Tongs
- Beaker
- Heating basin
- Bunsen burner
- Spatula
- Filter paper
Method:
1. Use the accurate balance to record the weight of the heating basin. Using a spatula fll a small
amount of the rock and salt mixture into the basin.
2. Place the mixture from the heating basin into a beaker and fll it with distilled water till the 100ml
line. Use the stirring rod to dissolve all of the salt in the mixture.
