Obtaining PH curve for acid - alkali titration
Aim:
To obtain curves that will show how ph concentration changes during an acid-base titration
and to find the concentration of weak acid CH3COOH.
Requirements:
● Safety spectacled
● Magnetic stirrer and burette
● pipet 25cm3
● 100cm3 beaker
● ph meter
● 0.100mole/dm3 of sodium hydroxide solution
● Weak acid CH3COOH.
● And HCL acid of unknown concentration
Procedure:
1. For this experiment we started by mesuring 25 cm3 of the weak acid which was than
poured into a 100cm3 beaker by using a pipette. And a small stirring paddle was than
added and the beaker was placed on a magnetic stirrer.
2. Than, the electrode of the ph meter was clamped, where the bulb was dipped into the
acid solution.
3. The burette wasFilled with 0.1 Mol / dm3 of sodium hydroxide solution. this was then
clamped over the beaker containing the weak acid.
4. the value of the pH of the acid was read from the pH metre and noted down. the
evolved step was repeated with different volumes of sodium hydroxide and PH
readings were obtained from each of the volume of sodium hydroxide.
5. and finally we plotted a graph from the pH readings which gave us a curve.
