Unit 11 P3 D2 Health and Social Care

P3- Explain factors that may lead to abusive situations:

D2- Evaluate the role of multiagency working to reduce the risk of abuse of
adults, with reference to legal frameworks, regulations, working strategies
and procedures:

In this assignment I will explain factors which may lead to abusive situations. I will
also evaluate the role of multiagency working to reduce the risk of abuse of adults,
with reference to legal frameworks, regulations, working strategies and procedures.

More than often people which are vulnerable are those who have physical or learning
disabilities and or mental health problems. There are also elderly people who might
be suffering from the dementia. People who have issues as I have stated above, are
usually accepting whatever happens to them and they don’t take any notice about
what happens to them. The reason for this is because most of the individuals who are
suffering with issues like that might be on medication or they might have a low self-
esteem.

The individual might have illnesses, condition or age which tends to make people feel
isolated; this might make them feel as if they have to ask the abusers for help. They
might also feel as if it their faults that the abuser might be making them feel like this.
For example, an elderly person with dementia is going to forget what has been
happening, this suggests that the abuser might take an advantage of the individual
with dementia and abuse them.

There could be different environments of where the abuse could be taking place. One
of these environments is the own home, this suggests that the individual may get
abused in their own homes by those who are by their side on the daily basis. There
are other places like community care, day care Hospitals, Residential care,
independent living and other areas where the individual could receive any type of
help, support or contact in terms of the victim being dependent on them. Some of
these environments could increase the chances of the individual being at the risk of
getting abused. This could involve things like social isolation, the reason for that is
that, more than often those who are abused don’t have as many people to talk to as
those who are not abused.

There are also other factors such as illnesses like dementia which could affect their
intellect, their memory and other things like physical abilities which could be the
result of not understanding what is happening around them. The person who is being
abused might not necessary be aware of the fact that they are being abused. The
individual who is taking care of the victim might not know that the victim is being
abused, either.

Additional factors such as problems with the communication could also affect if the
individual is being abused or not. For example, if the individual has problems and
difficulties with speaking or they might have hearing or they could have a visual
disability. This suggests that the individual which is being abused might not necessary
is to be able to solve the issues in terms of using the effective communication. The
