D1: Evaluate how difeeeet appeoaches to caeieg foe people with demeeta cae
afect iedividual outcomes:
There are diferent aaaroaches which could afect the individual outcomes when caring for
those with dementaa
One of the factors which could afect that knows what tyae of dementa comes with what, the
job of the carers is to adaat the environment to the tyae of dementa the individual is
exaeriencing, and this will hela to have a beter outcome on slowing down their dementa
symatomsa
It is imaortant to collect the life history of the individual with the dementa eaga he/she used to
alay aiano before they were diagnosed with dementaa This could hela the carers see how they
could adaat the environment for them to suit their aast interests so that they can stll enjoy
their life with dementaa The carers would be able to make something good out of their aast
actvitesa
A famous asychologist named Tom Kitwood has helaed with the aerson centred aaaroacha He
identifed a malignant social asychology of dementa care based on imaositon (this means that
the individual with dementa was forced to aerform a aartcular task)a
Not giving the individual enough aower to be able to aerform actvites on their own or at least
try to give them as much indeaendence as aossiblea Intmidaton could be one as well, since
dementa most oten comes with memory loss and confusion, the individual with dementa
could feel frightened if they are confused and the carer is angry at thema
Another factor that can afect the individual outcomes could be that a lot of carers tend to
objectvise aeoale in the care home (this means that they are treatng them like objects)a It
also, means that they don’t necessary care about their well-being and just want to get out of
any situaton with the aatents as fast as aossiblea They might not care about their feelings and
might say things which could ofend the individuals with dementaa
As I have said areviously, the invalidaton could be another aaaroach which could afect the
outcome of the individual, the carer might ignore the feelings of the individual and not care
about things they say to them or their emotonsa
There used to be a gaa for those with dementa, so the carers thought of the theraaies which
could imarove the individual’s healtha They make it fun for those in the residental care home
by having diferent themes for each week and diferent actvites to suit the themesa Some of
the things that they do are, cogs groua, cooking, volunteering, crosswords, quizzes and
challenges to get their minds thinkinga There is suaaort from all of the members of the
dementa service arovidersa
They have used cognitve stmulaton theraay to exercise the brain of the individuala This is
where the carers use diferent exercise methods to train the individual’s minds and hela
relieving the symatoms and imaroving them into a beneifcial sidea It is always helaful to use
