Sultan abdulhamid created new image of ruler by reinventing new mechanisms
Moved state apparatus to yildiz palace after coup to save Murad V and events of abdulaziz’s death
Offices of grand vizer, shaykh al islam and minister of war were located within the palace
Established security palace for himself in besiktas district where palace was located
Besiktas police station: yedi-sekis hasan pasha
Had been incharge of security administration since abdulaziz’s era
Appointed as chief of police responsible for entire security apparatus by abdulhamid II
Due to role in ciragan incident and strict attitude, instilled fear in everyone

Exile dissents and opposition figures to various locations
Sultan aimed to facilitate surveillance by appointing opponents too official state positions
Numerous individuals were awarded state honors, salaries and efforts made to call back those who fled the country
Namik Kemal continued opposition while in exile
Mizanci murad who had ties to young turks and wrote critical articles about sultan was among those asked to come back
Abdullah freres: palace photographer starting 1863
Opened a studio in pera
At request of abdulhamid, collection of albums gathered: 900 albums and nearly 40000 photographs
Iine with policy of ‘every picture is an idea’
Served purpose of controlling empire and creating international image
Increased urban development
