P2- Explain the potental impact on self-concept of three major life changes:
There are a few major life changes which could impact the self-concept of the development
of the individual. In fact some of these could happen at any stages of the lives of the
individual.
One of the examples could be that, the individual who was just born has lost a parent. This
could mean that in the future they might only live with the parent who is alive, however,
that could have a huge impact on the future of the child but also the parent themselves.
This means that when the child is grown he/she might experience the lack of love and care
from the other side of the parent e.g. if the mother has died, it means that the father might
not be as good at looking afer the child but also there is a possibility that the child might
lack in the closeness of the love from the mother. The lack of one parent in the family could
mean that there might be something missing in terms of performing certain roles in the
family. For example, if the father is not good at cooking then there is a possibility that the
child might not learn how to cook because there isn’t anyone who could teach them how to.
This could also mean that the child might be sufering from depression because of the loss
of the mother and they would want to be close with someone who is in the motherly basis.
The child might feel rejecton from their peers because not all of the parents could do
everything which means that there might be some issues with the school.
There is a possibility that the father could be depressed too which means that he might not
necessary pay much atenton to the child but instead he might treat the child in a negatve
way. This could impact the child’s future because it could mean that they might be
depressed but also they might have academic issues like low grades or they might fnd it
hard to do homework. This means that the child will need to fgure most of the things on
their own which might not all children be capable of doing.
When the child is older, there is a possibility that they might not necessary know how to get
help from other people because they didn’t have that experience of the care from their
mother. When the child would have their own children it could mean that the grandchildren
might be pressuring them about their grandmother which they might not necessary will be
willing to talk about.
From the father’s perspectve, he would have lost a partner which has been very close to
him. This means that the father is most likely going to be depressed but also he might be
taking up drinking or some other unhealthy habits. This means that they might not pay close
atenton to the child because they might be too afected by the grieving they might be
experiencing. They would want to be isolated from his friends but also his own parents
which might be trying to help him. There is a possibility that the father would want to look
for the step- mother for his child which might add up extra stress because they might stll be
in the process of grieving.
