Transition into the Professional Nursing Role
After obtaining my degree in nursing, I intend to seek work in the state of Florida.
The licensing requirements in Florida differ from various categories. For one to obtain a
registered nursing license in Florida mandates that all applicants should have attended a
professional nursing training that is certified by the Florida Board of Nursing. The candidates
are necessitated to undertake a test after completing the necessary academic requirements.
The applicant is required to send an application to the Florida Board, which authorizes them
to take the NCLEX-RN licensing exam (NursingLicensure.org, 2019). If the board rejects the
candidate's request, the person may not sit for the assessment. The licensing process also uses
fingerprinting technology and a live scan to obtain the identity of candidates. The applicant
may pay a total of 375$ inclusive of the fingerprinting and licensing fee
(NursingLicensure.org, 2019). If an applicant failed the licensing exams three times, then
they would be advised to take an enhanced remedial program.
Since I plan on pursuing my nursing career in Florida, I conducted an online search
for employers and vacancies that required the skills of a new graduate within the state. I came
across three recent job advertisements for various health facilities within Florida that I
perceived to be qualified. One of the institutions was Keiser University, which is a regionally
recognized private institution that provides undergraduate and post-graduate programs. The
university is looking to hire a BSN Clinical Nursing Instructor for its main campus in Florida.
The description of the position included preparing the course plans, recording grades, and
counseling students. The qualifications entailed three years of experience and a Florida RN
license.
Another employer was the Epic Health Services in Lakeland, Florida, who were
hiring a registered nurse who should be a new graduate. The position mandated applicants to
be graduates from a recognized nursing school in the country, have strong clinical experience
amassed during an internship, and is aware of the responsibilities of a nurse. Also, the job
required an individual who was willing to award in-home nursing care to adolescents,
