1. For journalists, what is “citizen journalism” (also known as
“collaborative journalism”)?
It means for journalists to accept that they can’t know everything, and allow
other people through technology to be your eyes and ears.
2. For typical members of the public, what is “citizen journalism” (also
known as “collaborative journalism”)?
For typical people in the general public it can mean not just being the
passive consumers of news, but also co-producing news.
3. What technological tool was used to investigate an alternative truth in
the two cases Mr. Lewis discusses?
The technological tool used to investigate this case was the social
networking app, Twitter.
4. What act of violence happened to Ian Tomlinson on April 1, 2009 in
London? Who hurt him? What was he trying to do when he became a
victim?
The act of violence that happened against Ian Tomlinson was he was
struck with a baton by a security personnel, then pushed to the ground and
he ended up dying moments later. The man who hurt him was PC Simon
Harwood.
5. What was the story that was told by the police about what happened
to Ian?
The police claimed that Ian had died of natural causes.
