Compensation and Employees Benefits
1. How are changes in compensation and benefits communicated to employees? For
example, do you understand how your employer determines your base
compensation for the job that you hold, as well as increases to your base
compensation?
In the organizational setup, several approaches are employed by the employer in
making communications related to compensation and benefits to the employees (Indrasari,
Syamsudin, Purnomo & Yunus, 2019). The most applied methods include emails sent
mostly by the human resource manager to the worker in question regarding the changes
made to compensations and benefits. Others include scheduled meetings either face to face
or via the internet on tools such as Google meet, among others. The communication can
also be made via notifications usually sent whenever changes are made to the worker’s
profile on the company’s intranet. In my previous workplace, such changes used to be
communicated via emails followed by face-to-face meetings where employees used to
meet with a representative of the human resource department to discuss the changes and
when they will be effected. This way, any arising issue regarding the change can be
discussed and ironed out before the worker can put a signature on the new terms.
In regards to how the employer determines the compensation on the job held, my
understanding is that several factors come into play. One concerns the experience and amount
of time served in the position (Rynes & Gerhart, 2000). For example for entry-level
professionals, the compensation is usually lower compared to individuals who have been
serving in the role for a prolonged period. Another aspect considered is the performance
